Dhiraagu Signs Agreements For A Submarine Cable Network System

 Dhiraagu signed a Construction and Maintenance agreement with Sri Lanka Telecom for operating the international cable system between Sri Lanka and the Maldives this morning at a ceremony held at Nasandhura Palace Hotel.

CEO of Dhiraagu Mr. Ismail Waheed signed the agreement on behalf of Dhiraagu and CEO Mr. Shuhei Annan signed on behalf of Sri Lanka Telecom.

In the same ceremony this morning, Mr. Ismail Waheed, Mr. Shuhei Annan and Assistant General Manager of NEC Submarine Networks Mr, Takahashi signed the supplier contract to lay the Dhiraagu Submarine Cable Network.

The submarine cable network project is a USD 22.7 million programme which would deliver a submarine cable system between Maldives and Sri Lanka, across the one and half degree channel and between Male’ and Hulhumale.

The project is estimated to be completed by the end of this year.

 President calls on people to strengthen Islamic faith, Islamic unity

 President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has called on the people to strengthen their Islamic faith, and to resolve to revive and further strengthen the existing Islamic bond among the people.

He made the statement in a message to the nation on the anniversary of the Day the Maldives Embraced Islam. The President’s message was published in the Special Supplement released by the Ministry of Home Affairs on the occasion.

The President said that the greatest gift we have received is the divine inspiration of Islam and emphasised that it had been the foremost reason for the sovereignty and independence of our nation.
